IN 2018

InShortFF 2018’s programme gathers 33 short films from 16 different countries to  portray ‘The State of Things’, through excellence in short film form and in genres ranging from animation, to experimental film, to documentary. Showcasing the innovation, skill and bold voices of global filmmaking teams, we hope to inspire and engage an equally global audience in the most diverse city in the world, by celebrating films that are independent, inclusive and international.

A two parts programme demonstrating the questions and traumas of our shared humanity. Films from around the world consider life, death, and the myths and realities that drive us. How do these vary depending on where on the earth you stand? With new technologies, and such different perspectives around the world, how do we remember life, and how do we perceive it?

White Man arrives at the Transition Centre Plus after dying of food poisoning in a cruise. He quickly learns that he cannot be white in his next life. This triggers a ridiculous but insightful conversation about what it is to be white and its undeserved privileges.

Adapted from one of the most captivating and haunting graphic novels by Chaboute. Alone has a misshapen face, he has always lived alone on a lighthouse in the middle of the ocean, his only companion is his imagination, which he stimulates with the words of an old dictionary.

Euxebe’s father was killed during the war. In her youth, Euxebe suffered Francoist repression and, to this day, despite the fact that the dictatorship ended long ago, she has not had the change to recover the memory of her father.

A heartfelt trip to shed light on a public health issue affecting amputees world wide. Kathy Pico, an Ecuadorian native, lost her leg to cancer at age 38. Reassessing her life’s value, Kathy turned to alpinism.

When Sue’s cousin Genelva visits her from Suriname, they want to go out with Sue’s two best friends. But after having an unpleasant encounter with the club’s bouncer at the door, the course of their night changes completely.

A perceptive short film programme in two parts celebrating brave souls going out into the world, embarking on adventure and seeking independence, only to find that patterns and people reappear. The second half of the programme showcases funny, innovative films about the trappings of modern life: how are the ideas that guide us affected by the strange times we live in? Canada Water Theatre is a part of an innovative partnership with Southwark Council. A 150-seat Culture Space is managed and programmed by the Albany, South East London’s leading performing arts venue. The Albany has a reputation for visionary programming that reflects the cultural diversity and creative mix of the area.
